Seventh Grade Week 27

This week's topic is the weather.

What causes High and Low pressure in the atmosphere?
What makes the winds blow?

Hopefully our contracts will take us outside to see the weather.

A "High" is when the air pressure is higher than the air around it.
A "Low" is when the air is lower than the ari surrounding it. Mr. Hoopman you use an Aneroid Barometer right?

i dont get how there is wind and what it does to affect us??

Traverse said...

The wind blows because the high pressure and low preasure cause the air to move because of the different temperature.

me said...

why does it rain

moses was not here said...

Hot air makes low pressure because it rises, and cold air makes high pressure because it sinks.

Is there any other way measure the air pressure and the wind speed?

Ben H said...

What do you use to tell wind speed

Giese said...

To measure air prassure you use brometer

Drew said...

Would it be better for are world If there was no wind? What would happen if there wa no wind?

Katie said...

If there was no low pressure could we be able to climb mt.everest without oxygen tanks/masks?

If you are out in the rain, will you get more wet if you run fast or slowly walk?

michaelbirenbaum said...

wids blow because of uneven heating of the earths surface

wht makes the weather change? Because one day it was so warm out and it got cold out in 20 min."Thats fast".

Does the phases before the cells splits happen with plants also?

How do rain clouds form?

*Air pressure is caused by movement of molecules on each other, and elevation & density affect it too. *LOW is at higher elevations because less air is pushing down on it & has less dense air.
*HIGH is at low elevation and higher dense air because more air is pushing down on it

how is it that we can predict what type of weather we will be having? And if it's because of a pattern, or because we get our weather from other places; why are the forecasts sometimes wrong?

Dayton, Tornadoes are when warm and cold air meet and they start spinning.

Dayton said...

How do ice storms form ?

Giese said...

tornados are formed when hot air is pushing the cold air up and it come around and the cold air is pushing the hot air out and that makes the circular motion.

Ben H said...

most tornados happen in north america than any where else in the world.
