What is science?

Do we have to do a question of the day everyday? Why do we discuss? Why can't I just fill out worksheets from the book? How do we search for our answers?

This week should answer some of those questions. We ask what is science. The book says its the systematic study of all of nature. What does that mean?

What steps are involved in the systematic study of science?
When will we ever use this?

After this week's talks we should all know why this class runs in the steps it does each day. It's science. From the QotD problem and your hypothesis. To the research, experiments, and testing of those educated guesses. Wrapping up with your best final answer and conclusion.

Edit(9/10/10)
Here are some ideas that you have for science this year. Click the images or watch the videos for some more tips.

capture a caterpillar and watch it overtime to observe its process from a caterpillar to a butterfly

worm and fill a bucket up half way put a leaf in it then fill it up the rest of the way water the soil put the worm in and let it dig its way to the leaf

wander around outside one day and take nature photography, and each group picks what they think is their best picture, and they're printed out and posted on a board in the office or something like that, and everyone votes, and the picture with the most votes wins. And the people in the group get a Hershy bar because they won. =)

disect stuff in class because we could get a chance to learn about its vital organs and how a frog REALLY functions

go out and search for different kinds of clouds and weather paterns. We could take pictures of them and put them together on a poster and name what type of cloud it is or what weather pattern it is

What do you think? What other ideas do you have?

Science is the study of how things interact, living and non-living. How things relate, work, and live together is another major part of science. Science deals with all systematic studies whether it is talking about biology geology, astrology, and chemical sciences. Science covers a huge variety of topics, such as human biology, rocks and minerals, space, matter and energy, ecology, botany, and many more. Their are categories such as life science, earth science, and physical science. It is a systematic study of all nature. Systematic means:"pertaining to, based on, or in accordance with a system of classification"-dictionary.com.

What does systematic mean:

Having, showing, or showing in a system. more like a plan. Like going to school going to homeroom then 2nd period go to 3rd period and so on.

Mathematics and Logical Science: this is not an experimental science.
Physical Sciences: the study of the universe and its nature
Life Science:investigate the organisms that live in a specific environment.

For the changing part in science we can capture a caterpillar and watch it overtime to observe its process from a caterpillar to a butterfly. For resources we can get a worm and fill a bucket up half way put a leaf in it then fill it up the rest of the way water the soil put the worm in and let it dig its way to the leaf.

okay, i couldn't find the other thing about were you were supposed to comment on what our ideas on what we should do in class, so im gonna just gonna write it here i guess...i REALLY think that we should get a chance to disect, wait did i spell that right? D.I.S.E.C.T? Eh, whatever. yea, i think it would be really cool to disect stuff in class because we could get a chance to learn about its vital organs and how a frog REALLY functions. so i don't know about you Mr. Hoopman, but i think we should go for it. -Collin Krimmel. :D

We should split into partners, and one person in each partnership brings a camera, and we wander around outside one day and take nature photography, and each group picks what they think is their best picture, and they're printed out and posted on a board in the office or something like that, and everyone votes, and the picture with the most votes wins. And the people in the group get a Hershy bar because they won. =)
