3.1 & 3.2: Chemical Reactions

This week we are discussing chemical reactions so that when we can eventually do a few reactions in a lab and know whats going on. So...

What is going on during a chemical reaction?

We also learn that because of the Law of Conservation of Mass, what goes in must come out. While molecules are rearranged, the type and number of atoms stay the same in a reaction. So...

Balance the following Equation:

NO + H2 -> NH3 + H2O

Have you found a reaction you want balanced in your Contract 23 research? Post it!

a chemical reaction occurs when electrons from one elemaent react with electrons from another.they only react when the valence shell is not filled.

the law of conservation shows us that matter does not just disapearit change forms. if we take baking soda and vineger they will react to each other.If you put them together in a bottle with a balloon covering it the baloon will fill with carbon.the bottle and its contents weigh the same. If you hadn't covered the bottel with a balloon it would have weighed less becouse the carbon would have floted out of the bottle. This is an example of the law of conservation.

NO + H2 -> NH3 + H2O
im balencing this now;;
this is how it goes-->
2NO+5N2H+2H2O-->
its all stupid, becuase i tried to put H2O in the small numbers; and it didnt work. :DD
i did it:DD byeee:)

NO + 2H2 -> NH3 + H20

there you go.

During a chemical reaction, bonds are formed, and two or more materials/substances are turned into one material/substance, or bonds break.

Here is the balanced equation:

2NO + 5H2 -> 2NH3 + 2H2O

The specifics of what happens of course depends entirely on what specific reaction is occurring, but in general, for a chemical reaction to occur, one or more bonds between atoms or molecules are either broken or new ones are formed. Bonds are broken and formed by the interaction of electrons with each other and the nuclei of the atoms involved in the bond.

2NO+3H2->2NH3+H2O

What is going on during a chemical reaction?
* occurrences of chemical changes-electrolysis

Balance this equation:
NO + H2 -> NH3 + H2O
*2NO+6H2 -> 2NH3+2H2O

1. During a chemical reaction bonds are formed.
2. NO + 4H2 --> 2NH3 + H2O
