Seventh Grade Week 22

Over the next two weeks we will look at Newton's Laws of Motion.

What is Newton's First Law?
What does it mean?

On p. 46 of your text there is an activity to design a lab that find the mass of an object without weighing or holding the object. You had to use your knowledge of Newton's Laws and how mass affects inertia. How did your group do in creating a way of finding mass without touching the object?

We also want to be finding interesting experiments in physics. Why are they important and how do they tie in with what we are covering? To help get the ball rolling we will look at some great discoveries and experiments throughout history in the Science Channel's presentation of 100 Greatest Discoveries: Physics.

This weeks contract has you designing a lab, demonstration, inquiry that teaches us about Newton's First Law. The best presentations will be done by both classroom groups on lab days(Wednesdays).

The first law says that an object
will stay at rest unless acted on by a unbalanced force

Newton's first law explains that if an object is at rest it will stay at rest until a unbalanced force causes it to move.If an object is in motion it will stay in motion until an unbalanced force causes it to stop. these forces are gravity, friction, and contact force.

The 1st law is an object at rest stays at rest, unless it is moved by or acted upon by an unbalanced force. An object in motion stays in motion, unless it is acted upon by an unbalanced force. This means that a object that is still or an object in motion will not move or change directions unless it is moved by an unbalaanced force.

Can friction be reversed?

what do balanced forces do if both motion and rest are caused by unbalanced forces

how did newton come up with all of these ideas and figure them all out

WhydoesEarth have such strong GRAVITY?

Things in motion stay in motion unless a force stopes it

newtons 1st law of motion:
an object stays at rest unless another force is acted upon it.
an object will stay in motion unless another force is acted upon it like friction.

Balanced forces don't really affect an object in motion at all. But does that mean that they stop the motion, or that it would just pass through a balanced force? Because stopping the motion would affect the motion, wouldnt it?

Can gravity or friction be a unbalanced force? Is there friction in space? Mr.Hoopman said that it would just keep going but I think it would just burn up.

Nick Stucke said...

Can you tell how much gravity we have or is it just always constant?

is there any place that has no friction besides space

How can inertia be measured the same as mass... when inertia is the restitance in change of speed or/and direction????????

what is it called when an object goes up all the way and becomes weightless for a split second

hey nick theres so much gravity per square inch of an objects mass

Newtons first law says that an object in rest will remain in rest unless an unbalanced force puts it in motion then it remains in motion.

Cam said...

Newton's first law was any object in motion will stay in motion at the same velocity unless acted on by another force. Any object in rest will stay in rest unless acted on by another force.

Katie said...

Newtons first law says that any object in rest will remain at rest, and any object in motion willremain in motion at the same velocity unless it interacts with an unbalanced force.

does newtons first law take place on gravity?

Newton's first law says that an object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion unless an unbalanced force gets in the way. It's pretty much saying that an object stays where it is unless someone moves it and an object stays in motion unless someone or something gets in the way or stops it from going on.

You need force to make accelaration

If gravity is the same on eveyone then y do we weigh different.

Balanced Force:do not cause change in motion 'cause forces are equal in size and opposite direction Ex:tug of war when flag's in middle, but
Unbalanced Force:cause change in motion 'cause forces are not equal in size and direction Ex:Tug of war when one team's stronger than the other

what about if i kick a ball up what keeps it from going on forever can you reverse it
