Eighth Grade Week 16

As we continue our look at the Earth's oceans we now look at ocean resources. What resources that we use come from the ocean?

How are these resources acquired?
How are these resources used?
What are the effects of humans acquiring and using these resources?

Watch this Discovery Video and answer some of the questions it asks.

We get fish and shrimp from hanging gigantic nets off the back of fishing boats that are as big as a football field! They also hang huge hooks off the back too.

Something very interesting is seaweed is used for shaving cream, ice cream, cheese, and curing cancer! In ice cream and cheese there is callageen and algin in shaving cream and ligin in some medicine used to help people cope with cancer.

How do animals that live in the bottom of the ocean with high pressure come up to the top of the ocean to breathe with the low presure???

They probably come up really slowly like when scuba divers take a small break every 10 feet while they come up.

Steven,
the fish that live in high pressure areas do not come up to breathe. they filter the water for dissolved oxygen with their gills

Jake,
maybe they come up for more light. if a certain amount of light is admitted to their area during the day, maybe the area that admits that amount of light at night is closer to the surface. please tell me if that made no sense.
